How To Wear Color Featuring Fran Arcuri

We have loved collaborating with Fran the creator behind Dreams of Colour. Fran incorporates so much color into her outfits and owns some of our favorite colors at Ally Shoes. We thought it would be a great idea to sit down with her and have her give us some tips on how to start incorporating more color into everyday looks.

Wearing color doesn’t have to be daunting! In fact, wearing color can be uplifting, fun and liberating once you let yourself go there. “Dopamine Dressing” is a term often used to refer to the mood enhancing benefits of wearing color.

Introduce Color Gradually

Incorporating color in your wardrobe and outfits doesn’t necessarily mean you have to dress like a rainbow (although there’s nothing wrong with that!). I’m a big believer that wearing color can be synonymous with style. It’s all about building confidence and the way to do that is to introduce color gradually. I suggest starting off by adding subtle pops of color to your outfit via accessories such as your shoes, bag, earrings, belt or scarf.

As your confidence builds, color can be incorporated by wearing a piece of clothing in a colorful print or block color. If this is the case, I suggest sticking with a style you usually wear. The colorful piece can be complemented by neutral accessories or for a bolder choice, you could add accessories in a color that features in the print or complements the block color.

Color Blocking + Neutral Accessories

Color blocking is a great way to wear color. This is the art of putting two (or three!) different, but complementary colors together in one outfit. Some fabulous color block combinations include red-pink, green-blue, orange-yellow, blue-yellow, lilac-green, pink-orange, and the list goes on! A color block outfit can be balanced by adding neutral accessories.

Tonal Dressing

Tonal dressing is the art of wearing different tones or shades of the same color. Doing this by mixing in different textures of the pieces that make up your outfit can be an art form but definitely makes for an interesting outfit!

Putting a colorful outfit together is undoubtedly a creative process. Sometimes it’s about trial and error and taking risks. Most importantly, it’s about staying true to yourself and having fun. If you’re still uncertain, there’s an abundance of inspiration out there on social media with many colorful fashionistas leading the way!
