Yansi Fugel from TuxCouture | Ally Shoes

With Earth Day quickly approaching we are featuring a powerful female entrepreneur that puts sustainable fashion first. Yansi Fugel of Tux Couture is changing the stigma that only men can wear bespoke, tailor-made tuxedos. Her answer is a line of couture tuxedos made for women - "tuxshedos" as she calls them. Follow along to find out how she's changing the custom suiting game for females and empowering women to feel confident in clothes that fit them all while doing her part to help the planet.

ALLY: Tell us about yourself.

Yansi: I am a feminist fashionista, meaning my mission is to empower women through their clothing. I like to say I dress women in confidence, with the belief that when you feel good in what you're wearing you feel confident and present yourself powerfully.

ALLY: What inspired you to launch Tux Couture?

Yansi: Tux Couture began as a custom request for my clients who needed something formal, yet classical cool, in their closets. My solution was a couture line of tuxedos with impeccable menswear detailing, yet made expressly for women, with a decidedly female point of view.

ALLY: Customization is a big part of your business, tell us more about that and why you decided to make that the core of the business.

Yansi: I've been designing clothes for women for a long time, so I'm well aware that most women can't pull clothes off the rack and have each piece fit the way they want. Proper fit is key in the confidence equation. There's nothing quite like it when your clothes fit you as if they've been made just for you; it takes your confidence to a whole new level. Why should men be the only ones who get to experience having their clothing customized?

ALLY: How is Tux Couture empowering brides to say Tux-I-Do? We love the Tux-I-Do BTW.

Yansi: Thanks! We love it, too! Dresses aren't for everyone. I personally feel so much lighter and I'm so much more comfortable and ready to have fun when I'm wearing pants. Modern times call for modern options, no matter who you're marrying! We've outfitted brides for their wedding, rehearsal dinners and bridal showers in variations ranging from lace tuxshedos to a tuxshedo jumpsuit. Tuxshedos aren't only for the bride either, we've dressed bridesmaids and mothers of the bride and groom.

One of my favorite weddings to do was this past November - I got to outfit bridesmaids (all who were sisters) in gorgeous, red satin tuxedos. Their jackets were all lined in the colors of the ivy league schools they attended, and embroidered with their names, which made them even more amazing. It was certainly memorable for all involved and unlike a bridesmaid gown, something they will reach for in their closets again and again!

ALLY: With Earth Day approaching what are some of the steps that you are taking to make positive changes?

Yansi: We have always been - and will always be - a sustainable fashion brand. Everything we do is bespoke, thus there is no inventory. Not only does "made to order" work out beautifully for our clients, it helps our planet, too. We produce less waste and high quality, timeless pieces that will last a lifetime.

ALLY: And with our world changing fast, what is a piece of advice for female entrepreneurs out there?

Don't be afraid to take risks. If you believe wholeheartedly in something, there's always a way. You CAN make it happen and we'll be here to dress you in confidence and cheer you on.
