Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month with Alvania Lopez, Founder of Peachbox Co.

We are excited to commence Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month with the Founder of PeachBox Co., Alvania Lopez. Alvania is from the Dominican Republic and shares with us a bit about her background and how she founded PeachBox Co.

What was the biggest challenge you faced when opening PeachBox Co.?

Time. Trying to balance between starting a new business and my corporate job was challenging but not impossible -it took over a year to get my business in the right direction and finally make a move full-time.

What was the inspiration behind your brand?

My fiance and I started PeachBox Co. out of self-need. After years of struggle and frustration to find the perfect gifts for our friends, family, and clients, ones that were; functional, beautiful, well-made, on-brand, and suitable for each occasion -we decided it was time to make gifting easier and peachier! I quit my corporate job, and here we are today! 

What advice would you give to another Hispanic woman jumping into their entrepreneurial venture?

Get started!! There is never a "perfect" time to start a business. -The road won't be easy, but it will be worth it! Trust your gut feeling, always and find a mentor you can trust if they are Latinx and can relate to your unique struggles even better. Lastly, get all the free resources you can get -podcasts are my personal favorite. 

Tell us a little bit more about your story as an immigrant from the Dominican Republic and how that shaped your entrepreneurial adventure

I believe that being an immigrant is my superpower! I learned from my parent's work ethics; their dedication and tenacity have helped me become who I am today. If you can move to a different country, learn a new language and create a life for yourself there with zero connections -you can do anything! Immigrants are risk-takers, resilient and resourceful, critical ingredients for entrepreneurship.

PeachBox Co. looks like they are very eco-friendly and sustainable. What do you look for in products before you add them to one of your boxes? 

We pride ourselves in our attention to detail, and that small and women-owned businesses supply 90% of our products. We look for brands that share our values and create beautiful, well-made products with intention.
