We're thrilled to feature Virginia (aka Vee), the voice behind What Vee Wore. Known for her effortless style, thoughtful wardrobe advice, and honest approach to fashion, Vee inspires women to build closets that feel both timeless and authentic. We caught up with her to talk personal style and how she balances her life.
ALLY Shoes: Tell us a little about yourself and the inspiration behind What Vee Wore.
Vee: I'm Virginia (aka Vee) - a full-time lawyer, mum of boys and the Vee behind What Vee Wore. I started posting when I was navigating my return to work after maternity leave many years ago now (haha). Between a changing body (which I'm sure many women can relate to), babies and sleep deprivation, I'd completely lost my sense of style. I couldn't fit into the wardrobe I'd spent years building, and I'd somehow forgotten how to get dressed in a way that felt like me.
What started as me trying to find my way back has somehow grown into a wonderful little corner of the internet. My style has evolved right alongside it, and I've navigated those changes very publicly. I used to subject myself to some very uncomfortable clothes and wear heels that would absolutely torture my feet. These days, I have zero tolerance for suffering in the name of fashion.
ALLY Shoes: As a female lawyer, a lot of your content is inspired by day-to-day office looks. How does what we wear impact the way we show up professionally?
Vee: I think getting dressed should make life easier, not harder. If I'm comfortable and feel like myself, I'm not distracted by shoes I can't walk in or a blazer that's ill-fitting. Dressing the part really does add to your confidence, especially on those days where you're bouncing between meetings, and a million other things. It's one less thing to think about, which leaves more headspace to focus on doing your job well.
ALLY Shoes: What are the foundational pieces every woman should have in her workwear wardrobe?
Vee: A great pair of tailored trousers, a shirt (I like mine to be oversized so I style it with the sleeves pushed up), a trusty blazer, a mac coat and comfortable shoes. Life's too short to spend eight hours pretending your feet are fine.
ALLY Shoes: How do you balance your day job, What Vee Wore plus a family? Any tips or tricks you swear by?
Vee: I'm not sure "balance" is the right word! Filming my outfits has become part of my daily routine now, so that side of things feels pretty automatic. I'm definitely time poor and never have as much time to edit as I'd like, so I've learnt to embrace a "done is better than perfect" mentality. I also rely heavily on to-do lists - they're the only reason all the balls stay in the air. And I'm incredibly lucky to have a husband who's been so supportive of this passion project from the very beginning. It would be a lot harder without him in my corner.
ALLY Shoes: Who is your ally?
Vee: Definitely my husband. He's incredibly supportive. I'm constantly bouncing ideas off him and, after years of practice, he's become a surprisingly good outfit photographer!
Rapid Fire
Coffee or tea? Both! Coffee gets me out of bed, tea gets me through the rest of the day.
Favourite city for style inspo? Melbourne. Slightly blasphemous as a Sydneysider, but I think Australian style is hard to beat - and Melbourne does it particularly well.
Early bird or night owl? Night owl... but my kids have other ideas.
One word that describes your style? Comfortable!!
